Employees and patrons of several Zippy’s Restaurants are now protected in the event of a Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA), after the Hawaiian restaurant chain installed HeartSine Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) in many of its locations.
Zippy Restaurant’s has outfitted several of its locations with a HeartSine samaritan® PAD 350P (SAM 350P) AED, a device that analyzes the heart rhythm and delivers an electrical shock to victims of Sudden Cardiac Arrest in order to restore the heart to normal rhythm.
Placement of the HeartSine AEDs coincides with the current wellness program provided to employees by FCH Enterprises, parent company of Zippy’s Restaurants. The program, which supports lifestyle improvements for the more than 2,400 employees, also includes cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and AED training, further ensuring the well-being of all employees and restaurant patrons.
“Ensuring that all of our employees and customers are safe while at our restaurant locations is a high priority for us, so placing an AED in several of our stores is just one more step we can take to ensure their safety,” says Paul Yokota, President of FCH Enterprises. “Our strong commitment to the safety of our communities made the decision to install HeartSine AEDs at our locations an easy one.”
The HeartSine samaritan PAD 350P was designed especially for use in public areas by providing a sophisticated defibrillator for adult or pediatric use, inside a lightweight and easy-to-operate system. The user-friendly SAM 350P provides easy to follow visual and audio prompts to guide the rescuer from pad application to shock delivery, if required.
“With 84% of Sudden Cardiac Arrests occurring outside of a healthcare setting, placing AEDs in restaurants like Zippy’s provides much needed AED access to the local communities, as well as those inside the restaurants,” says Brian Duffield, Sales Manager at HeartSine Technologies. “We commend Paul and the restaurant chain for taking this important forward-thinking step.”
In addition to protecting the restaurant’s employees and patrons, the defibrillators will be available to the surrounding communities and citizens, including Hawaii’s senior citizen population, further enhancing the safety and prosperity of Hawaii.
The restaurant chain has installed ten HeartSine AEDs and plans to outfit the remaining locations with AEDs in the near future.
“As a long term partner with Zippy’s for their employee education and wellness, we are pleased that they are demonstrating their community leadership by taking this next step of placing AEDs in their popular restaurant chain,” says John Ching, Owner of Hawaii Educational Life-Support Programs, HeartSine’s Authorized Distributor that installed the AEDs. “Because it is a true public access device for use by virtually anyone, the HeartSine AED is ideal for placement in restaurants where it may be used by the extended local community.”
