HeartSine’s authorized distributor in Italy has presented a lifesaving samaritan PAD to a secondary school in Borgo San Lorenzo in Florence.
Echoes Communications, which distributes HeartSine Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) across the country, donated the defibrillator to the college in a special ceremony attended by the local Mayor and the Department of Sport.
The AED will be located in the school’s gym where over 600 students undertake physical education.
Pupils also take part in various after-school activities such as volleyball, boxing & basketball.
Volker Brand, HeartSine’s Vice President of Sales and Marketing, said:
“This is a vibrant school where hundreds of students perform physical exercise on a weekly basis. There also are many non-school sporting events which take place here, so this will be a vital device which can be used by all in the community should Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) occur.”
Globally, 20,000 people die from SCA every day.
Since 1982, all young people in Italy are required to have an electrocardiogram (ECG) before participating in an organized sport.
