HeartSine Technologies has donated one of its lifesaving automated defibrillator devices to a school in Israel to mark the launch of Bar’s Heart NPO charity.

Should sudden cardiac arrest occur to any pupil, member of staff, or parent, the HeartSine Samaritan PAD 500P donated to the school can increase survival rates by up to 75% when used in conjunction with cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). This is compared to just 5% with CPR alone.

At the age of 15, Bar Hirshbrand, suffered sudden cardiac arrest at her school, which had no defibrillator, and unfortunately died.

Since her death five years ago, Bar’s mother, Limor Hirshbrand, along with Benny Sharvit (Voluntary Chairman) founded a charity in her honour – Bar’s Heart NPO – with the goal of increasing awareness of sudden cardiac arrest and the importance of the presence of automated external defibrillators (AEDs) in public places.

The charity has been working with HeartSine’s Israeli distributor, Sha’ag Medical Equipment, to promote the need for the automated devices, which can be used by anyone, even with no previous first aid experience.

The decision was then made by HeartSine to donate a defibrillator to Bar’s school, Hativat Levona School in Beyt Arye, on behalf of Bar’s Heart NPO.

Declan O’Mahoney, Chief Executive of HeartSine said:

“HeartSine defibrillators are fully automated meaning they talk the first responder through the entire ‘save’ process, step by step.

“This means that they can be used by anyone, no matter what their age or first aid ability, which is absolutely essential given that sudden cardiac arrest can happen to anyone at any time.

“I fully support the goals of Bar’s Heart and am very honoured that we have been able to play a role in achieving the goals of the charity by donating a defibrillator in Bar’s memory.”
